Student media accepting job applications for fall semester

The Amarillo College student media department is accepting applications for paid staff positions for the fall semester. Students working for the newspaper are offered a hands-on opportunity to experience what it is like to work in a newsroom environment.

Positions available for The Ranger, AC’s official student newspaper, are: editor, in charge of overseeing the production of the newspaper, story assignments and various other duties; opinion page editor, in charge of editing the opinion pieces and designing page 2; page 3 news editor, in charge of editing news stories and designing the page; page 4 news editor, in charge of editing news stories and designing the page; lifestyle editor, in charge of editing reviews and designing the entertainment page; feature editor, in charge of StudentStills, editing feature stories and designing page 6; editorial writer, in charge of writing the staff editorials; administration reporter, in charge of attending board of regents meetings and writing administration stories; and multimedia reporters, in charge of putting together video packages that will be posted on the acranger.com Web site.

Positions available for AC Current, the biannual magazine, are: editor, in charge of overseeing the production of the magazine; and two assistant editors whose duties include editing stories, designing pages and assisting the editor with communication between the reporters and sources.

Other positions include: Web editor, in charge of maintaining the Web site and social networking accounts; artist/cartoonist, in charge of editorial cartoons and additional illustrations needed; advertising sales representative, to bring in paid ad sales; photographers; circulation manager, in charge of distributing the newspapers to the newsstands; and mail manager, in charge of organizing newspapers to be mailed to households.

Application forms can be picked up in the newsroom at 413 Parcells Hall.

The forms should be returned to Mike Haynes, student media adviser, in his mailbox in 413 Parcells Hall or mailed to him at Student Publications, Amarillo College, P.O. Box 447, Amarillo, Texas 79178. Application forms must be turned in by May 3, and a short interview may be required.

Students must be taking at least six hours of classes at AC in the semester that they will be on staff.
