The annual LITE Scholarship Luncheon will take place at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday in the Heritage Room of the Amarillo Civic Center.

The luncheon is open to the public, and tickets are available in advance through Kathy Roth of AC Disability Services as well as at the door.

“It is a wonderful way to support the community,” said Brenda Rossnagel, coordinator of disability services, who said she hopes to see a large turnout.

The LITE Scholarship was developed in 2002 by the Amarillo Advisory Commission for People with Disabilities to help people with disabilities be able to attend AC.

The program has grown and had involvement from numerous community organizations, AC and the AC Foundation.

Disability Services takes the lead role in the scholarship services and events such as the luncheon.

Students who are considered for the scholarship are ranked on four qualifications: honors and awards, short- and long-term goals, financial need and a description of obstacles they have faced and overcome due to their disability.

More than 450 students who have disabilities attend AC, and more than 200 students have been awarded the scholarship since 2002.

The luncheon is a fundraiser to support the scholarship.

Matthew LeBlanc will be the master of ceremonies, Dr. Paul Matney will give the welcome address and Jerry Moller will give the invocation.

“The speakers are always inspiring,” Rossnagel said.

Student speakers will be Natalie Hammond and Taylor Rebant, both of whom have received the scholarship.

“They are some outstanding young ladies,” Rossnagel said. The event will have vendor booths and a silent auction. Auction winners will receive items from cookies to gift certificates to Southwest Airlines tickets.

The Stockyard Café will cater the event.
