According to the Amarillo College Web site, “Graduation is not an automatic process. Students must formally apply for graduation during the term in which they intend to graduate.
Students should begin the process by consulting with an academic advisor to ensure that all degree requirements have been met.”
The application is accessible online or through the Registrar’s Office. Students are encouraged to double check certain things before applying so that complications are avoided.
“Always check with an advisor before applying for graduation. The most common error in applications is when students do not follow up to see if course substitutions check out all right,” said Jason Norman, director of advising.
“We are here to help if necessary, but it is a very quick and simple process,” said Norman.
The deadline to apply for Spring 2010 graduation is April 22.
Kelly Murphy, AC’s graduation specialist, said students need to apply by deadline so that the application can be processed in time and so the graduate’s name will appear in the brochure.
All students eligible for graduation are required to complete the application.
Murphy said, “People often think that they have to apply for graduation only if they want to go through the commencement ceremony, but that is not true. In order to graduate you must submit an application.”
