Amarillo College, in conjunction with Civic Amarillo, will host a male a cappella group, Mosaic May 1 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.

AC’s own vocal jazz group, Voxix, will be the opening act. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free for AC students and faculty with college IDs.

All other patrons, who are not affiliated with AC, can buy tickets at the Amarillo Civic Center box office, United Supermarkets or through Panhandle Tickets at 806-378-3096.

Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for non-AC students.

Changes made in Pell Grant procedures

Students awarded financial aid in 2009-2010 who wish to receive funds for the 2010 summer semester are required to fill out a summer Pell grant request form at the financial aid office.

Students must be enrolled in their summer courses before submitting the form. Students who need financial aid should complete and return the request form regardless of eligibility. The deadline is May 1.

Committee chooses 2010 Common Reader

Flags of our Fathers by James Bradley has been chosen as the 2010 Common Reader.

The biography tells the story of six of the men, including Bradley’s own father, who raised the American flag on Iwo Jima in WWII. Bradley is set to speak at Amarillo College in October.

The Common Reader is part of the First Year Experience. This will be the third year AC has had a Common Reader.

AC participates in March for Babies

The March of Dimes will conduct its annual 5K run and March for Babies Saturday at Thompson Park.

Seventy-six cents of each dollar raised goes directly to the March of Dimes’ cause of ensuring that babies be born healthy. Students or employees can register for the AC team in the basement of the College Union Building on the Washington Street Campus or visit www.marchforbabies.org/team/1413677.
