Finals are coming up, and that means summer is right around the corner. To many Amarillo College students and employees, summer means fun in the sun and relaxing at home, but to others summer only means that there is even more work to be done.

Connie Dillard, an AC employee, will continue to work throughout the summer at the school getting everything together for important events.

"Through May we will be working hard on preparing for the Classified Appreciation Day which takes place on May 31," Dillard said. "We also have an administrator retreat at the Moore Campus on June 14."

Pam Pinner, another AC employee, also will be on campus during the summer working in the equipment services department.

While some are constantly working, others will be lucky enough to hang out at the lake or the pool during their summer break, like AC student William Movroydis.

"Although I have to work this summer, I will make time to be at the lake wakeboarding as much as I can," said Movroydis, who lives right on Lake Tanglewood.

Others choose not to be so active and plan to just relax by the pool instead.

"I plan on spending as much time as possible lying out by the pool at my apartment and just spending time with my friends," AC student Ashley Westfall said.

On the other hand, vacationing is the most exciting part of the summer for some students. Newlywed AC student Rikki Hanson got married last summer and is planning to go to Acapulco, Mexico, for her one-year anniversary.

"We went to Cancun for our honeymoon and absolutely loved it," Hanson said. "So we decided to make another trip to Mexico, only this time to Acapulco with a group of our close friends."

They will be there for a full week in July.

Others are taking the summer to get ready to make the transition from AC to four-year schools in the fall.

Whitney Pierce will finish up her surgical technology program in July and then will move to Lubbock to attend Texas Tech University in August.

"I'm so excited about going to Tech, because I have a lot of friends that live there and they all love it," Pierce said. Movroydis also will make a move down to San Marcos with a few other friends in August to attend Texas State University.
