I made my mom and dad watch the music video with me every time it came on. I never had heard a song like "Fidelity," a voice like Regina Spector's or a singer who looked anything like her and had her style.
I waited for weeks to get the newest Regina Spektor CD, until finally my dad found the last copy at the Wal-Mart on Grand and bought it for me.
The minute he brought the CD home, I downloaded it onto my laptop and listened to "Fidelity" over and over, mainly because it was the only song on the CD I knew, and it was the first song on the CD.
Then I ventured out and listened to the rest. I found out that all the songs are really good.
None of them sounds the same, and they all are unique in their own way. She puts her own personality into every song. Each song has lyrics that everyone can relate to.
In one of Spektor's songs, "On the Radio," one of the lyrics is, "While we were on our knees, praying that disease would leave the ones we love, and never come again."
I know I have done that a number of times, and in one of my favorite songs, "Samson," she sings about a man who is her "sweetest downfall." I am sure a lot of girls can relate to that.
Not only can this girl sing, but she has been playing the piano since she was a little girl.
When I got to the seventh song on the CD, "Après Moi," I could not figure out what she was saying, but I really liked the song.
As it turns out, Spektor and her family emigrated from Russia and moved to New York years ago, and most of the song is in Russian, but I still have no idea what she is singing about.
I guess that is a good aspect for an artist to have. Even though the song is in a language I do not know, she sings it so well that I do not need to know what she is saying, because I like what I hear.
One of the best things about Spektor is that she is multi-talented. She is a singer, songwriter and longtime pianist.
If anyone is tired of the typical music that everyone is singing and wants to listen to a unique artist who sings, writes her own songs and plays the piano, then Regina Spektor is the answer.
I have not taken this CD out of my car since the day I got it, and I am sure I am not the only one.
