Global warming: a real concern or propaganda?

In April 1975, placed toward the back of a Newsweek magazine was a story by Peter Gwynne about something most people know nothing about.

Global cooling was the scare of the day, and the hype that built up over the issue was just as ridiculous as modern-day global warming.

A PDF of the article can be viewed at www.rushlimbaugh.com/coolingworld.pdf.

The article states, "According to George Kukla of Columbia University, satellite photos indicated a sudden, large increase in Northern Hemisphere snow cover in the winter of 1971-72. And a study released last month by two NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) scientists notes that the amount of sunshine reaching the ground in the continental U.S. diminished by 1.3 percent between 1964 and 1972."

As a result, people were making a big deal about the issue and some even feared it was the beginning of a new ice age.

I believe Earth temperatures probably are changing, and they probably are even getting warmer at this point in time. But I theorize that the earth goes through cycles of warming up and cooling down. Then the process starts all over again.

Through the blankets of propaganda surrounding the issue, I've observed that the majority of people who support the global warming theory have no other reason for promoting their stance besides the fact that "Al Gore said so."

Now, I'm sure there are more reasons than that out there, but I don't normally hear intelligent arguments promoting global warming. It seems that nobody bothers to investigate the issue; they just jump on the bandwagon of sensationalized scare tactics. If global warming does exist, it can't be proven that humans are the cause.

I know you're probably asking yourself, "Why would anybody make global warming up? How would that benefit anyone?"

I think we all can agree that the most influential thing in the world is money. Yes, I believe global warming is a money-making scam.

In one of radio and TV talk show host Glenn Beck's articles posted at www.glennbeck.com, Beck states that he agrees global warming exists but argues that the problem is not manmade.

"You know why that probably sounds controversial?" Beck asks. "It's because all the scientists who are out there saying, 'Hold on, wait a second,' when it comes to this stuff never get their voice heard. It's the other side, the fear-mongering side, that gets the media attention and keeps the grant money flowing in."

This article only serves to perpetuate the problem. I find it disturbing that there are no references to current scientific research in this article. The sources are political pundits with insufficient scientific background to analyze the current data. (Continued…)

What a joke, Rachel. Religion and politics? This belongs in Opinion because that's all it is. Your sources are Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck? Give me a break. (Continued…)
