There is a reported nursing shortage across the United States that is only expected to grow drastically in upcoming years.
Thanks to a federal grant called "Nursing the Numbers," Amarillo College has been given the opportunity to help fill the void.
The $1.8 million grant has been aiding students since fall 2005 by funding four activities that are beneficial to associate degree nursing students.
The activities include supplemental instruction, care groups, a nursing success course and a nursing success boot camp.
The programs are designed to help beginning-level students learn the study and time management skills they need to complete nursing school.
The field of nursing provides a high-stress environment, and AC's dedication to help students manage the anxiety of the job will ensure confident and successful nurses for the future.
The grant is scheduled to expire in summer 2008. AC already has shown it will stretch the funds to their fullest potential.
The nursing program's use of the grant is one more thing that makes the community proud of AC.
The constant efforts of the college to help students gain the best education possible at an affordable price do not go unnoticed and always are deserving of praise.
