Judith Boit, a nursing major, like many other students, has plans for where she will spend her refund.
"I plan on saving money to go back to KenÂya and visit my family," Boit said. She will have been in the United States for three years on Valentine's Day.
"The money that I don't put back to save, I plan on using to pay for school and bills," she said.
Adam Kirchgessner, an art major, also already has made plans for his return check.
"It has been three years since I have purchased a pair of new glasses, and my contacts are a year old," Kirchgessner said. Everyone has a different idea for where they plan to spend their refund.
"I would spend it on what I need first," Kirchgessner said.
Nohemi Pham, a biology major, shared her thoughts on what she has in mind for her refund.
"If I get something back, I will probably spend it on gas," Pham said.
Rising gas prices are putting a dent into many pockets.
Everyone seems to have put some thought into where they will spend their refund.
If someone hasn't already filed their taxes, there are many agencies that will assist them in doing so.
H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt and Superior Tax are three of the many tax preparers in Amarillo. Kara Coine of H&R Block said anyone could file as early as Jan. 3.
The last day to file this year is April 17.
The sooner a person files, the sooner he or she will get a refund check if owed one.
