Gen. Wesley Clark to speak in Amarillo

Former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO Gen. Wesley Clark will speak and sign books at the Globe-News Center at 7:30 p.m. today. A private reception will precede the event at 6 p.m.

The speech will be part of the AC Distinguished Lecture Series. For ticket information and prices, call 371-5322.



Free online tutoring available to students

Tutoring is available to students through online tutoring service SMARTHINKING.

"SMARTHINKING provides the tutors," said coordinator Charlotte Goebel. "And these aren't peer tutors. These are instructors with master's and doctoral degrees."

To access the tutoring service, log on to myAC, then click through the "Academics" and "Tutoring" tabs.

Theater students receive honors
Last weekend, Amarillo College hosted the Texas II Kennedy Center/American College Theatre Festival. Students from the University of Texas at El Paso, Eastern New Mexico University, West Texas A&M University and Prairie View A&M University attended and brought productions to the Experimental Theatre. AC's theatre arts program did well:

Theatre AC received an Excellence in Ensemble Work for The Triangle Factory Fire Project.

Theatre AC was commended for its Support of Original Work in the 10-minute play category.

Theatre AC and its faculty/staff received five commendations for Excellence in Festival Hosting.

Shanna Gobin, a sophomore, received an Excellence in Playwriting award for her original 10-minute play, Black-Eyed Susan.
Gobin, sophomore Brandy Calcote and sophomore Tele Durham also received Irene Ryan Scholarship nominations for their roles in The Triangle Factory Fire Project.


Suzuki students to play at B&N store

Students in the Suzuki String program will perform in concert at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday at the Barnes and Noble bookstore on Soncy Street.

All day, a percentage of purchases will go to the Suzuki program for those customers who mention the Suzuki fundraiser at checkout.
