The AC police are out each morning along with students, looking for parking violators. Whether one has parked in a parking lot without a parking permit or has parked too close to a stop sign, the police issue tickets to violators.
"Sometimes, 30 to 40 parking tickets are given out daily," stated a reference from the Amarillo College police department.
"There have been days when there were only 10 to 15 parking violations handed out."
The number of tickets issued on a daily basis varies. Each ticket given out has from one to nine violations. The fee for each violation is $10. For example, a ticket with two violations is a $20 ticket.
Tickets must be paid within seven days from the day issued. For tickets that remain unpaid after the seven-day period, the fine doubles.
The violation most often seen is parking too close to a stop sign.
In the mornings, as students drive around looking for parking spots, various cars parked close to those little red stop signs have the well-known yellow tickets on their windshields.
Natalie Davis, a general studies major, said she received a parking ticket at the beginning of the semester. She was parked along the curb of Memorial Park, halfway into an area protected by a "No Parking" sign. She said she was happy that it was only a $10 ticket.
She paid her fine and said, "I will never park where I'm not supposed to again."
The best suggestion Davis can give is to "leave about 10 minutes earlier from the regular time one leaves for school."
Plenty of parking spots are available for early birds.
