Too much time is wasted on watching television

There is nothing on television. TV is the biggest waste of time in today's society. If you really think about it, large chunks of our lives are wasted sitting in front of the television.

During these lapses in consciousness, people accomplish absolutely nothing. Of course, it is packaged so well. There is a channel for literally anything you could possible find interesting.

Need to learn to cook? Just check out the food channel. Check out the animal channel if you're a nature lover. Into interior design? There is a channel for that.

If you want news, fashion, entertainment or sports, believe me, there is a channel.

To be honest, all those channels encourage one thing.

That thing would be called laziness. During the course of watching our favorite programs, we sit on our bottoms and normally take in some sort of snacking. I know I am not the only person who eats the majority of their meals in front of the TV.

Let me tell you what is worse then the channels with a purpose. Those shows that have no meaning at all really make me mad. Why do we insist on watching people do the most ridiculous things?

I find my self staring at these programs like a zombie, completely brainless. Sometimes I wonder what I accomplished by watching people swallow bugs for an hour.

Don't get me wrong; I like to be entertained as much as the next person. But there have to be some limits.

The language and nudity on network television and basic cable is completely out of hand. It is nothing to hear a word during prime time programming that I would have gotten slapped in the mouth for as a child.

It must be practically impossible for parents to shield their children from these occurrences. I really feel like an idiot sometimes after I realize how much time I have wasted watching TV.

Television is a creativity killer. Instead of watching people cook on TV, get a cookbook and try out a recipe. Books are our friends, and they don't bite.

For every channel, there is a book that will actually teach you something without trying to sell a product.

The next time you sit down to watch television, look around. I am willing to bet you see at least five other things you should be doing. TV keeps us from getting so much done. It is kind of sad.

I challenge you to do just one of those things before zoning out into TV land.

When I was little, I remember my mom telling me to get from in front of the "boob tube" and go outside and play.

I am suggesting that we all do exactly that. Get up, everyone, and go out and play.
