Comedian Eric O'Shea performed in the Washington Street Campus cafeteria Feb. 7.

The Student Government Association invited him. SGA has sponsored the event for several years.

SGA will host another comedy night Thursday on the East Campus with Bryan Kellen.

In the Feb. 7 performance, O'Shea's main imitations were Elmo and Mickey Mouse.

"This is his returning year. He has a very tight schedule, so we had to fit him in with ours," said English major Adam Jenkins. "Also, we had to fly him here, and we picked him up from the airport.

"He has a light spirit to him, and he's a very happy-go-lucky person."

O'Shea grew up in New Haven, Conn., and first tried comedy while in college in Milwaukee. After several years opening for other comics, he now performs primarily at colleges. According to talkingcomedy.com, his material includes humorous observations on family reunions, board games, surviving life with your mom and childhood's often-embarrassing and awkward moments.

O'Shea said he was influenced by George Carlin and Bill Cosby.

SGA sponsers many events that students can participate in all year, from Fallfest to Badgerama.

"If you enjoyed the show or if you wanted to see it but didn't get the chance, then just tell an SGA member with positive feedback so that we can keep this sort of activity ongoing," Jenkins said.

About 40 students attended the performance.

" I thought the guy was hilarious, because when I met him he told me a joke right off the bat," said Copeland Neeley, an education major.

"The whole setting freaked me out when I first when into the cafeteria, but when he started, it really suited the night."
