The Student Government Association conducted its election Sept. 20-21.

"I think what most inspired me to be in SGA was that I could do things for the student body and before, I wasn't in the right authorative position to be able to make some of those decisions," said Nichole Terry, SGA president.

SGA is in charge of planning activities for students as well as being the only organization that can speak for the whole student body.

To be in SGA, a student must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and be enrolled in at least six semester hours.

The student body votes after the students running have campaigned and elects 30 new members.

"I made fliers to let other students know that I was running for office," said Thomas Cameron, a mass communication major.

SGA sponsors Fallfest, Badgerama, concerts and the Distinguished Lecture series and represents students at regents' meetings.

"I wanted to get into SGA so that I could have a say in what goes on for the student body and hopefully make things better for students," Cameron said.

SGA welcomes diversity from any age group.

The more diverse SGA is, the better the organization can represent all Amarillo College students.

"SGA is an organization that many students don't feel is important to them or a priority, but really it is their own personal representation and it helps with their experience at Amarillo College," said Gavin Beck, an English major.
