There was no such thing as summer vacation for the board of regents. The board hired 21 employees, approved multiple budget projects, annexed land and dealt with the tax rates during the summer.

Brenda Johnson, a registered nurse, is one of the new faculty members.

"I originally went to a community college in Missouri, and I really enjoyed it there," she said. "I'll be doing clinical care clinicals with the nursing students."

Other employees are Daniel Esquivel, director of the Hereford Campus, Monty Downs, a theater instructor, and Alexandra Maria Vargas, coordinator of the Student Services Program on the Moore County Campus.

"When I came for my interview I really enjoyed it, and I fit in with the department well," said Mary Ellen Orff, a biology instructor.

"I felt comfortable. I get to teach something I never taught before, microbiology.

The board also approved re-roofing KACV-TV for $59,200. A three-year contract was issued at $60,200 to Western Dining for food service, and new parking lots for the East and Moore County campus were approved.

The board also annexed land to increase the Amarillo College district/ According to Sandy Swafford, anytime the city expands, so does the college.

The effective tax rate for 2005 is $0.15489 per $100 of assessed value. The adopted tax rate for 2005 is $0.16043, according to Terry Berg, director of financial services.
