Running for Mayor

Amarillo media cooperated on the Washington Street Campus Tuesday night in the most widely distributed live broadcast ever in the Amarillo area.

Voters had questions answered from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on KACV-TV, KAMR-TV, KCIT-TV, KFDA-TV and KVII-TV.

Mayoral and city commission candidates in the May 7 election were asked to respond to the following questions:

1. Should Amarillo buy Roberts County water right from T. Boone Pickens' company, Mesa Water Inc.?

2. Do you support capping the amount appraisals can rise each year?

3. Should keeping property taxes low be the primary goal for Amarillo?

4. Would you support changing the election system for commissioners from at-large to cumulative voting or single-member districts?

More questons and the answers are available at www.amarillo.com. Early voting began Wednesday and runs through May 3. Early voters can cast ballots on the third floor of City Hall or at the Randall County Annex at the corner of Georgia Street and Interstate 27.
