Tuition increases have been a topic across the nation among universities and colleges.
Tuesday night was no different.
The Amarillo College board of regents voted to increase tuition $2 a semester hour for in-district students next fall and another $2 in spring 2006.
According to the Amarillo Globe-News, revenue from the state has been steadily dropping over the years, and raising tuition for the next two semesters should generate about $650,000 for the collage, said Terry Berg, AC's dean of finance and administrative services.
Other announcements were made at the board meeting.
In the education report, AC's attorney, Bob Sanders, distributed books on citing government codes for the new regents.
The board also was updated about the Open Meetings Act for any meetings conducted on campus.
The Open Meetings Act provides that the public must be included in meetings unless appropriate reasons exist for excluding them. Public officials have to post information on meetings 72 hours ahead of time.
Also, Faculty Senate representative Steve Dutton recommended that Reagan Hathcock be approved as Professor Emeritus for 2005.
Hathcock served AC as a government professor and was a recipient of the John F. Mead Faculty Excellence Award in 1990.
The board approved the Professor Emeritus recognition.
