The 58-year-old Brooklyn native began her talk by strictly stating, "No note-taking, and all eyes on me," and began talking about a great relationship. She said she wanted her audience to bore holes through her with their eyes.
She presented a list of questions for audience members to ask themselves to see if they really were in a great relationship.
"Small things are what works," Goodblatt said. "Don't bust your chops to make someone like you."
According to Goodblatt, "The 10 Basic Premises for a Great Relationship are:
1. Make yourself fabulous before you set out.
2. Reach out for excellence.
3. Relationships are meant to be easy, not tear your guts out.
4. If it's good, go for it. If it's bad, run.
5. Have absolute commitment to make the relationship work
6. Am I a bigger, better person?
7. Do I find myself explaining or defending myself?
8. Do they see me for who I am?
9. You are good enough.
10. Am I happy? I deserve it.
"This is not a dress rehearsal, this is real life," Goodblat said, "Young people need to hear this."
