The Amarillo College Community Band performed at its annual fall concert Nov. 14, in the Concert Hall Theater.
The band is a mixture of music majors and other full-time students from AC as well as players in the Amarillo area who come from all walks of life.
"It was very exciting and different," said Stephanie Phillips, a biology major.
"It had different moods to each kind of music."
The Community Band started the performance with an introduction of "Declaration Overture," which consisted of Andante Maestoso and Presto. It continued with "Divertimento for Band, Opus 42," which consists of "Prologue," "Song," "Dance," "Burlesque," "Soliloquy" and "March."
"I came to support a friend of mine in the concert band," Phillips said.
The band also premiered a performance named "My Best Friend," which was in memory of a friend of one of the band members. The band ended the show with "His Honor."
The band is an ensemble studying and performing literature composed of various sizes of winds, brass and percussion instrumentation.
Ryan Terry, a nursing major, said he's been playing for years. "I've been playing the trumpet for about seven years," he said.
According to the music department Web site, http://www.actx.edu/%7Emusic/, students are expected to have access to their own instruments (with the exception of percussion and the possible exception of certain woodwind and brass instruments).
Certain instruments are available for use through AC on a first-come, first-served basis.
"The love of the arts is what influences me to teach," said Scott Beckett, musical director. "Music is universal and can be understood around the world."
Under the direction of Beckett, the band performs in the fall and will perform in spring 2005.
Following is a list of upcoming events sponsored by the music department:
* Sunday, Dec. 5: AC Community Band Empty Stocking Fund Concert in conjunction with the Amarillo Globe-News at 4 p.m. at the Amarillo Civic Center.
