Finally, there is a place for Amarillo College Moore County Campus students and faculty members to go watch sports and enjoy fantastic food.

Last Sept. 1, Dumas welcomed its first sports bar, 287 Roadhouse, to open inside the city limits.

The atmosphere is awesome, with stainless steel-top tables and huge flat-screen television sets located in just about every corner of the sports bar so no sports fan will miss a single moment of their favorite sport.

To quench your thirst, 287 Roadhouse offers everything from cold beer and cocktails to tea and sodas. The reasonably priced food comes in pretty good-sized portions. You definitely will get your fair share of food.

The menu makes your mouth water as you try to decide what to order. The calf fries appetizer is the best I have ever tasted. The calf fries are the Roadhouse appetizer specialty.

If you’re the kind of person who wants to eat healthy, then the salads are just what you would want.

If you’re the kind who just wants a good steak, then this is the place to be. The steaks are the most tender and most flavorful cut of beef I have eaten in quite awhile.

All the steaks come with grilled onions and mushrooms, one side and a dinner salad. The steaks are aged and hand-cut on-site.

The sides include sweet mix fries, loaded baked potato, fresh-cut, grilled vegetables, sweet chips, house salad, mashed potatoes and scallop potatoes.

In addition to the steaks and salads, 287 Roadhouse has a great seafood selection. The lobster tail, shrimp, crawfish and catfish really can delight one’s taste buds. They also are served with two side choices.

For the little ones, the restaurant offers what it calls “yard birds” – chicken bites or grilled chicken. Because this is Texas, we cannot forget the all-time best foods: sandwiches and hamburgers.

When you finally have gotten all the yummy appetizers and the main dish out of the way, here comes the dessert. On a recent visit, apple was the homemade cobbler of the day. Cheesecake and chocolate eruption cake also were offered. No matter what your preference, 287 Roadhouse can cater to your taste.

The family-owned restaurant is located at 1621 S. Dumas Ave. It is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.
