K, ladies and gentlemen, first allow me to eat my words. If you happened to catch my last review, I reprimanded the film industry for its disgusting transfer of literature to film.
Alas, Twilight: New Moon is a home run.
With a staggering $26.3 million brought in from the midnight screening alone, my, along with many others', anticipation was high.
Being somewhat a fan of the books and not a fan of the first movie, I went in expecting more of the same. Luckily I quickly was proven wrong.
Scenery of undeniable beauty was lain before the audience in such a way that I hoped I actually was there.
Characters of both brash and subdued personalities made me wish I actually knew them. After about half the movie, I felt I did.
For those not in the know on the subject of Twilight, Bella (Kristen Stewart) loves the vampire Edward (Robert Pattinson), Jacob (Taylor Lautner) loves Bella, and they live in the low lighting of a town called Forks.
The film opens in a dream of Bella's in which she is dealing subconsciously with her lover's immortality versus her own imminent physical decline.
It is nowhere near the extent of the tribulations the interspecies couple is doomed to face if they remain paired.
Edward's "brother" Jasper singlehandedly proves that by attacking Bella on the night of her birthday party.
Knowing that such peril undoubtedly will follow them, Edward makes the rash decision to leave Bella so she might lead a normal life.
Enter the other man (make that werewolf), Jacob.
Elegant wardrobe, deep emotional trials, remarkable landscape and powerful storytelling make this piece of cinema unforgettable.
People of all ages and subcultures agree that anyone will enjoy it for one reason or another, to the tune of $142 million on its opening weekend.
So again I must apologize for my aforementioned, grossly overstated hatred of books turned into movies.
By the way, I'm Team Jacob all day.
