Issue date: 11/20/08 Section: Debut
'Tis the time of year for wonderful Christmas music to kick off the holiday season. Stores are turning on their Christmas tunes, setting the tone for the upcoming holiday. The Amarillo Museum of Art is doing the same.
Mark Dec. 6 on your calendar. AmoA is hosting a Christmas workshop for children from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The AmoA is located at 2200 S. Van Buren St. on the Washington Street Campus.
Admission for the event is $15. Reservations can be made by calling the AMoA at 371-5050.
Refreshments will be served, live music will be played and Santa himself will make an appearance.
Event 25 years old
For the past 25 years, AMoA has been hosting the annual event designed for children from ages 4 to 10. Although it is directed toward the younger crowd, there will be a little something for everyone.
The workshop started as an outreach of the Museum School to help provide a festive, creative place for children of all ages to come together and enjoy the Christmas spirit by making ornaments, cards and gifts.
Every year AMoA is filled to its capacity, 80 children, in the workshop, so reservations should be made as soon as possible.
"This is not a fundraiser for the Museum," said Kim Mahan, deputy director of finance & education programs. "It is simply done as a service to the community."
Scholarships available
A limited number of scholarships are available. Those interested in applying should call Mahan at 371-5050. For more information, visit the AMoA Web site at http://www.amarilloart.org.
