This month, Student Government Association members will forego their usual Distinguished Lecture and instead donate their time and efforts to the Evelyn Rivers Christmas Project.
Students involved with the SGA will be working on site at the Evelyn Rivers Project headquarters in downtown Amarillo.
"We try to do one big community service project each semester," said Heather Atchley, student activities director. This semester will be no exception.
All students involved with the SGA will be clocking some hours throughout the month, working for the Evelyn Rivers Christmas Project.
SGA members will be wrapping and delivering presents in hopes of making this Christmas a merrier one for Amarillo families.
Students who want to serve with the SGA and the Evelyn Rivers Christmas Project not only are encouraged, but welcomed to do so.
This time each year, the SGA usually sponsors a Distinguished Lecture featuring a guest lecturer.
Because of a scheduling conflict, this year's lecture has been postponed until March.
The SGA is a collection of elected students who represent the student body to the staff, faculty and board of regents.
In addition to representing the student body, the members also seek to create an environment on campus where students can make the most of their college experience.
For more information on becoming a member or how to help, call Atchley at 371-5303 or e-mail her at atchley-hl@actx.edu.
