Jones on medical leave for treatment

Dr. Paul Matney, vice president and dean of instruction, is serving as acting president of Amarillo College while President Steven Jones undergoes treatment for cancer.
Matney will handle the president's duties for the next three weeks and when needed for medical reasons in the future. The board of regents named him acting president at its meeting Tuesday night in Dumas.
"Amarillo College is Dr. Matney's passion, and we have full confidence that he will lead the college well during this time," board chairwoman Lilia Escajeda told Brad Newman of the Amarillo Globe-News.
Jones had recommended Matney as the acting president, according to the Globe-News. Matney, an Amarillo native, has held various positions at AC for 29 years.
