The finalists for the position of Amarillo College vice president of academic affairs visited the campus this week.

The three finalists are Dr. Debra Kuhl, dean of instruction at Clarendon College; Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, associate provost for academic affairs at West Texas A&M University; and Dr. Don Tomas, senior vice president of instruction at Weatherford College.

The search began last October. Twenty-two applicants were asked to respond to five broad questions in written form. All but one responded.

The search committee then narrowed it to seven candidates. After phone interviews, the final three were chosen.

The candidates arrived on separate days Monday through Wednesday and were subjected to a series of interviews. The first was with the search committee, including its chairman, Bill Crawford, assistant dean of career and technical programs.

The initial interview was followed by a one-hour meeting with the AC cabinet and another with the division chairs.

AC President Dr. Paul Matney then sat down for lunch with each finalist for a more informal interview. Each day of the visits ended with an open forum that allowed students and employees to pose questions.

“I definitely think it went well,” Crawford said. “Each candidate is very competitive and has their own strengths and weaknesses.” He said the committee’s choice will be made by next week.
