This is the second year in a row that Brown, 24, has made it to Hollywood on American Idol.
This time around, Brown is proving that a little perseverance can go a long way.
This season is a repeat of last year, when the judges told her it was “the end,” but she showed up again in 2010.
Brown’s first audition for season eight placed her in the top 50.
This year, however, she is rumored to be a season nine semifinalist.
In an interview with American Idol, Brown said she decided she probably should come back and audition again and try to get a little farther.
The judges recognized her as soon as she walked in.
When auditioning, she sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
She received good feedback on her performance.
The judges sent her on, and Kara Dioguardi said, “You’re definitely one of my favorites this season.”
Students responded positively upon hearing the news of a former student’s success.
“I think it’s pretty awesome,” said Jaclyn Allen, an art major.
“I hope she makes it through Hollywood week, because it would be really cool to see someone from Amarillo make it to the top.”
Brown is receiving plenty of support from her hometown. Her achievement has been seen as positive and inspiring.
“I think it just goes to show that it doesn’t matter where you’ve come from, it just matters where you are going,” said Stephanie Henderson, a nuclear medicine major.
Brown’s father is David Brown, pastor of Victory Church in Amarillo.
She also is on the staff at Victory as the venue director.
The American Idol contest will not allow contestants and their families to participate in news interviews while the contestant still is in the running for American Idol, but Brown and her family members keep everyone up-to-date on their Facebook and Twitter pages.
They all express excitement about how far Brown has come in the contest and how she has made it to Hollywood.
Sam Wakefield, a friend of Brown’s on Facebook, has known Lacey since she was 12 years old. They were in a church band together. “She is an excellent singer,” Wakefield said.
No matter what the outcome, Brown has lots of fans and friends supporting her.
She has more than 700 friends on Facebook.
“Lacey’s accomplishment should give us all a little boost to push higher and reach for our dreams,” Henderson said.
“They are within our grasp. Best of luck to this talented woman.”
American Idol airs at 8 p.m. Tuesdays on the Fox network.
