Bruce Beck, a late Amarillo Globe-News writer and editor, has been posthumously honored as the 2010 Friend of Young Children, an award presented annually during the Week of Young Children.
Mayor Debra McCartt presented the award to Beck’s wife, Tanya, at a breakfast Friday at Amarillo College’s Concert Hall Theatre on the Washington Street Campus.
McCartt said she selected Beck after getting to know him through Lunch with the Mayor, a program in which Amarillo fourth- and fifth-grade students dine at the Big Texan restaurant and hear a special speaker to promote success in education...
